Lee Auman

Candidate for US Congress, AL-04

Current officeholders: Robert Aderholt

Next election: June 5, 2018

I support the 2nd Amendment and I support gun safety. I will never seek to infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners. Responsible gun owners know that supporting the 2nd Amendment goes hand in hand with common-sense solutions to reduce gun violence and prevent senseless deaths. We must keep our communities safe for all people, especially children. My priorities are better enforcement of existing laws, closing dangerous loopholes, and implementing new protections that have been proven to save lives. In Congress, my positions on gun safety will be based on evidence, not ideology.

My message is simple and urgent: it’s time to pass laws for common-sense gun control measures in Alabama. When we go “blue,” WE make the rules on this issue.

The Second Amendment to our Constitution begins with the words: “A well-regulated militia…” it is past time for us to get serious about gun regulation in our country. It is possible to have both reasonable gun and reasonable gun safety regulations, and for people to still have their hunting rifles, shotguns and hand guns. It is time for reasonable gun regulation.”

Current officeholder: Martha Roby (LEAP Forward Score: -100%)

Next election: June 5, 2018

Martha Roby has gotten just $5000 from the NRA since coming in office (less than 1% of her donations). Yet she continues to push forward NRA-friendly bills. Why? Because she wins on that issue. Until voters on BOTH sides of the aisle decide that reducing gun violence is a deciding issue on election day, nothing is going to change.

I come from a family of hunters and knew how to shoot a gun when I was in elementary school, but I can’t stay silent about the crisis in this country. I believe in common sense gun control, and I support comprehensive background checks, permitting, and a ban on assault-type weapons. Our children are leading the fight against the NRA, and I will fight with them to make our communities safer.
