Marching Orders Blog: 3/25/18 - Dispatches from the March

An occasional update on the candidates, lawmakers and the legislation LEAP Forward is tracking.

Sincere thanks to every single participant in yesterday's worldwide marches, their supporters, and allies both in office and running for it. It was an amazing day.

I’ve been endorsed by Moms Demand Action as a Gun Sense Candidate, and I’m proud to stand with the thousands of North Carolinians demanding action as well. My opponent, on the other hand, brags about his A+ NRA record, and he has voted to loosen gun laws, leaving us open to a potential disaster in our own community. He supported legislation that would allow some convicted felons to get access to assault-style rifles like the ones used in Parkland and Las Vegas, just to keep his NRA rating. His disastrous voting record leaves all of us vulnerable, and we deserve better. He has put corporate interests ahead of North Carolina’s interests, including the majority of NC gun owners who want things to change.

When they’re talking about gun violence, at the end of the day, the most important thing you can say is, ‘If I am old enough to get shot at, then I am old enough to speak out against being shot at. Your voice is more important than the voices down at Congress.
— Rep. Erica Thomas (GA House 39)
The young people have awoken the conscience of the whole country, and they’ve shown us we have a vast consensus on what to do. … We can get these things done.
