Mark Ali (SC-05), "End Gun Violence"

The solution to our gun violence epidemic requires a multi-prong solution. One solution that tackles We have two kinds of gun violence epidmic taing place in America today. The last straw for Australia to introduce legislation to curb mass shooting took place in April of 1996. The country decided to ban all high powered rifles within weeks of the shooting that left 35 dead. We’ve seen other countries successfully tackle mass shooting crisis since then.

The Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting left 20 children and six adults dead, and the most we did was to organize a nation wide out cry for change followed by legislative inaction. We are one of the few countries in the world where guns have more rights than humans and we are also the only country in the world where we have more guns than humans. We have allowed American made guns to destroy other country’s democracy, while allowing home grown terrorist organizations to stock pile weapons to pose the greatest thread to our democracy. We can prevent the gun violence epidemic from getting out of control, but we must act now.
