Phil Arballo (CA-22), "Thoughts and prayers only go so far"

Have you ever witnessed a moment and wondered how it would play in the history books?

That’s how I felt hearing about the multiple mass shootings this weekend, and then watching the Republicans refuse to take meaningful action. Thoughts and prayers only go so far.

When House Democrats moved forward with common sense gun safety legislation — the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (HR 8) — Devin Nunes and many of his Republican colleagues voted against it.

The House passed it despite Nunes’ no vote, but now the bill is stuck in limbo because Mitch McConnell refuses to bring it up for a vote in the Senate.

At the end of the day, Republicans seem to care more about cozying up to the NRA than protecting the people they serve.

In fact, Devin Nunes has an A rating from the NRA — not surprising since he has taken $129,213 from the gun rights lobby to finance his re-election bids.

I’m running for Congress to put a stop to that. I believe that everyone should be safe in their schools, at movie theaters, at work, in any public place.

Let’s do all we can to keep our communities safe.
