Tennessee committee passes bill criminalizing firing a weapon into a crowd

SB 35, which takes the logical step of making it a Class C felony to discharge a firearm into a parade, religious service, concert, athletic or political event, or anywhere more than 25 people are assembled, has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill, which somehow did not pass unanimously, is now referred to the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee.

A companion bill in the House, ✔ HB 135, is currently set to be heard in that body’s Judiciary Committee on April 3.
