With Accidental Gun Deaths on the Rise, Some Texas Lawmakers Won’t Even Support a Gun Safety Public Awareness Campaign

A 4-year-old boy in Texas City was at home with his grandmother last year when he found a handgun in a bedroom and fatally shot himself. The next day, a 6-year-old boy in Houston was at home with his teenage sister when he found a pistol in a bedroom and shot and killed himself. At least 19 children died in unintentional shootings in 2018 in Texas, and at least 30 more were injured, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Texas "Constitutional Carry" HB357 Bill Likely To Fail

Texas lawmakers will not vote this year on whether to allow people to carry handguns without a license. That’s the word from the man behind the bill that would create what supporters call “Constitutional Carry.”   State representative Jonathan Stickland, Republican from Bedford, says it’s too late in the legislative session for the bill to have a realistic chance of passing. But he also says in a video posted on  his Facebook  page that the tactics of some gun rights advocates pushing for the bill have wound up sabotaging the effort.
